Student Public Safety Officer

Student Public Safety Officers will undergo an initial 40+ hours of paid on the job training. Officers will learn to secure campus buildings, provide foot patrol, use a portable radio, respond to alarms, enforce parking regulations, and complete safety escorts. Officers will also provide general customer service and assist Public Safety Supervisors and Patrol Officers as needed.  

Duties & Responsibilities:
 ·        Provide proactive foot patrol of campus parking lots, grounds and buildings.
·        Report suspicious activity/person to Public Safety Dispatch for response by Public Safety Supervisors or Student Patrol Officers.
·        Enforcement of all parking regulations.
·        Check and secure buildings after building closing hours.
·        Provide customer service to all community and non-community members.
·        Provide safety escorts and complete grant access requests.
·        Assist at campus events.
·        Respond to fire alarms and assist as needed.
·        Maintain confidentiality of information.
·        Follow all department policies and procedures.
·        Assist Public Safety Supervisors and Student Patrol Officers as needed.
·        Other duties as required.


 Minimum Qualifications to perform the duties of the position:
 
·        MSUM student in good standing.
·        Must pass criminal background check.
·        Qualify for work-study (not required).
·        Ability to work as a team.

Work Schedule: Generally, shifts are between 3 - 8 hours in length. On average, a student Security Officer could potentially work 10-29 hours a week. Shift times vary depending on various factors including staff availability and campus needs. Day shifts and evening shifts are available. Weekend shifts may go until 2:00 am. Scheduling is centered around student availability.
